Google Voice, amazing, but who will dig it

Posted by BellBoy on 18 Aug 2009 | Tagged as: Tech

Google voice is pretty cool.  It’s not as cool as I would have liked.  I have a total appreciation for what they have accomplished and for the scale they will be serving.

While Goog-411 completely blows me away, I think that the Google Voice service will need a simple better interface to make it attractive to mass end users. I am hopeful that the different google products will tie together better with a single user interface. I honestly hate going all over the web for all my different messaging apps.

Google Voice also has no support for my HTC Oxygen or my Motorola Q9. I am hopeful that they will quickly integrate the Voice dialer into Windows phones and the Google mobile app set.

Reality, the basis of everything is warped.

Are you ready to see how nothing in this world can be completely consistent or even true.  Some math for you.

  1. 3 men go to a hotel to get a room. The man at the front desk tells them it will be $30. Each man pays $10. They go to the room.
  2. The man at the front desk realizes that the room only costs $25, and sends a bellboy to the room with $5.
  3. Anxiety ridden on how to split the $5 among 3 men, the bellboy simply gives each man $1, and keeps $2 for himself.
  4. So the 3 men have now paid $9 for the room, a total of $27.  Add the $2 the bellboy kept, that makes $29

Where is the missing $1?

Food for Thought in Hartford

Somehow I missed that this was going on!!

Last night in Hartford, Connecticut, Anthony Bourdain, Alice Waters, and Duff Goldman sat down with moderator Colin McEnroe in the Bushnell Theater for the sold out “Food for Thought” forum. They tackled a wide range of topics, including celebrity, food television, cocaine use at Chez Panisse, airplane food, food programs in public schools, fast food chains, and on and on. Here are some highlights:

Software Perfection - NASA

An incredible article from FastCompany on software perfection. [They Write the Right Stuff]

There is so much I want to say about this. What humans can achieve.

The right stuff kicks in at T-minus 31 seconds.

As the 120-ton space shuttle sits surrounded by almost 4 million pounds of rocket fuel, exhaling noxious fumes, visibly impatient to defy gravity, its on-board computers take command. Four identical machines, running identical software, pull information from thousands of sensors, make hundreds of milli-second decisions, vote on every decision, check with each other 250 times a second. A fifth computer, with different software, stands by to take control should the other four malfunction.
